Field notes: manuscript humidity in seasonal storage

Research

Short technical note from conservation surveys in partner repositories last autumn.

Relative humidity spikes in unheated storage rooms remain the most predictable risk factor for mould and cockling in our climate. This note records baseline readings from twelve partner sites before and after modest HVAC interventions.

None of the findings are surprising to conservators; their value lies in comparable tables that smaller institutions can reuse when advocating for capital repairs. Data tables are included as supplementary material.
